Sometimes before October 2014

Since Shakedown is now something of a cult classic, I thought I would tell the tale of how it all happened.

I repeatedly talked my husband through a show. A show that existed only in my head. Where the circus got real sassy and hot. There was a whole lineup that had come to me and I would describe it all to him. Poor guy must have listened patiently to this potential production 10 times through, complete with songs. I would start them and then describe what I was seeing in my minds eye. Finally after many walk-throughs, he said to me, “Well Sommer, are you going to do anything with this? Or just continue to tell me about it? Because I have heard it before.” Sweet, patient Husband.

The show has always been inspired by music- the great muse. Songs had collected in my head and I could see the whole vision.

The very first song, Violent Games, is the one that started it all. The act was Contortionist. In the vision, The Contortionist gave no fucks, and she was owning her body and intensely in her (yoga) practice and it was hot and powerful, solo on the stage with nothing but a tight body suit and a candle. Interestingly that person wanted nothing to do with it when it was time, nor did she attend the first Shakedown… but I get ahead of myself.
